Hello, school! How can you keep yourself and your child on your toes? On the eve of Knowledge Day, there is more talk about the new school year. In my opinion, the content of such conversations clearly conveys to us a high level of anxiety, which causes discomfort not only for parents, but also for the child. Anxiety is read not only in conversations, but also in mass jokes, memes, funny videos about school. Why does this happen? Before school, we can remember the experience of the last school year. Perhaps it was not entirely successful, to put it mildly. Unlearned lessons, bad grades, conflicts and the like come to mind. We can hear enough horror stories from loved ones and fall into an anxious state, especially if you have no experience and your child is just starting first grade. After all, many people associate school with problematic situations, what can we say. Remembering last year’s educational trash, listening to conversations about difficulties in learning, the brain will naturally give you the emotion of fear and anxiety, warning you of danger. Thus, having entered an anxious state, we begin preparing for school and increase our control over the situation. What happens to the child? The child, just like you, listens to conversations about upcoming difficulties, reads this anxiety and enters an anxious state. Against the background of anxiety, sleep and appetite may be disturbed, apathy towards everyday activities and, of course, reluctance to go to school may appear. To a place where it is difficult, scary and there are many problems. How to reduce anxiety and calm down? 1. Watch yourself. First of all, remember that your condition is reflected in the child, who finds it difficult to manage his emotions. Especially if it's a teenager. The child unconsciously wants to be the best and not disappoint his parents. Try to criticize your child less when preparing for school, so that he feels confident.2. Lower your expectations. Every past experience can be negative. Remember that you cannot know how your current school year will go. Try not to paint scary pictures in your head or your child’s successful academic success. Nobody knows the future. And reality may be more painful when the illusion is broken by another deuce.3. Support your child and yourself. Believe that your child can handle it and convey this to him. Find support for yourself from loved ones. The most effective thing is to take a couple of sessions with a psychologist.4. Limit negativity. Don't talk about school difficulties. After all, for the most part these are other people’s emotions and you don’t need to connect to them.5. Watch your thoughts. Negative thoughts cause fear and anxiety. Track them, challenge them. Try to see the positive side. Of course, you won’t be able to reduce anxiety one hundred percent and it’s not necessary. This feeling allows us to prepare the child for school, and ultimately be fully equipped. It is important not to go to extremes and remember that your anxiety is justified by the fact that you are a responsible parent and want the best for yourself and your child. I wish you to enter this school year with confidence that you and your child will cope with any circumstances! Tell us if you are ready for the new school year?
