Recently at the forum, one of the participants asked the question, by what criteria can a psychologist be considered a “good specialist”? In this article I will not discuss the importance of establishing a therapeutic relationship between a psychologist and a client or the level/quality of education, but will start from afar. In the artistic environment there is such a concept - “observation”. This is a taste that is formed as a result of viewing a large amount of visual material. Clothing designers, interior designers, UI designers, costume designers, makeup artists, screenwriters, directors, etc. need to develop visual observation. Below, as an example, I present several photographs of completely different creative objects, some of which are immediately perceived by ordinary people as “art”, and some of which are not: Orsay Museum, Paris. Photo by the author. Louvre, Paris. Photo by the author. Multimedia Art Museum, Moscow Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York. Photo by the author. By analogy with artistic taste, I believe that in the profession of a psychologist, observation is the presence of life experience. Do you remember the sensational admission to the Faculty of Psychology of Moscow State University by a 9-year-old girl? I doubt that even if she receives a specialized diploma, she will be able to advise adults in a few years. By the way, many people think that changing the field of professional activity - for example, professional retraining - is a reset. As in trainings on personal effectiveness: Forget everything that you were taught before! In my understanding, any experience is important! In addition to psychological education, my 16 years of experience as a business process auditor is also used in my psychological practice , especially in short-term psychotherapy and coaching techniques, where following the structure (or protocols) is a prerequisite. I’ll tell you more. A business process audit is carried out in order to identify and eliminate existing shortcomings in work and improve business efficiency. To do this, all business processes operating in the company are checked for relevance and efficiency - and, if necessary, updated, supplemented and updated. This is the essence of quality management in business. Similarly, a client, turning to a psychologist for help, wants to cope with existing limitations, change ineffective behavioral habits and improve the quality of his life. What do you think?
