I suggested four things to consider when trying to decide if Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is right for you. What do you hope to get out of therapy? ?Does the CBT model make sense to you? Is the CBT structure right for you? What problems have you encountered? Having thought about what you would like to get from therapy (1), we move on to discussing the cognitive behavioral therapy model (2).2 . Is the CBT model close in meaning to you? We perceive everything that happens to us through the prism of the following categories: – Our thoughts and beliefs (cognitive level): we may or may not be aware of our thoughts. – Our feelings or emotions (emotional level ): usually they can be described in one word, for example, joy, sadness, anger, anxiety, disappointment, etc. – Our bodily sensations (physiological level): such as pain, tension, relaxation, etc.; – What we whether we do or not do is our behavior (behavioral level): for example, avoiding situations, crying, self-criticism, drinking alcohol, support, communication, etc. Of course, everything that happens to us here and now depends on our previous experiences . It has shaped our beliefs and assumptions about ourselves, the world and others and, in turn, influences how we think, feel and act in the present. Cognitive behavioral psychologists strive to make changes in all of these areas to impact your well-being . It is important to recognize the interrelationships of these elements to understand how your experience will change. However, if you believe that improvement in your situation can only happen if other people or circumstances change, then a method such as cognitive behavioral therapy is not for you fits. The goal of cognitive behavioral therapy is to help you change your situation. There are circumstances that cannot be changed, and then CBT helps to find the most effective way to come to terms with this situation. In the next article we will look at the structure of CBT to understand how close the style of therapy in this method is to you.
